Dedicated to the recognition of excellence in architecture from a global point of view, the International Architecture Awards have chosen the Amos Rex Art Museum as one of their winning projects for 2021.

Organised by the Chicago Athenaeum, together with The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press, the awards are the oldest and most prestigious distinguished international building awards programme that honours new and cutting-edge design worldwide.

This year, the Museum received a record number of projects for new buildings, landscape architecture, and urban planning from the most important firms practicing globally.

An international jury composed of several distinguished architects, designers, critics, and educators worked remotely and selected over 130 submissions from a shortlist of over 450 projects.

On September 10 2021 the Museum will open a special exhibition “The City and the World” showcasing the winning projects at The Contemporary Space Athens. The exhibition in Athens continues through October 11.

All buildings and urban planning projects selected this year are also published in a special issue of Global Design + Urbanism XXI. “New International Architecture 2021.”
