Paula Salonen interior Architect SIO from JKMM

Our interior architect Paula Salonen received the Interior Architect of the Year 2019 prize. The Finnish Association of Interior Architects SIO recognizes one of its members with either the Furniture Designer of the Year award or the Interior Architect of the Year award each year.

Paula’s career as an interior architect is extensive, and since 2004 she has been one of the driving forces of our interior design department. During her time with JKMM she has been working with high scale public spaces such as the Court of Appeal of Helsinki and Verkatehdas Arts and Congress Centre.  More recently, she has focused on work environments and she has been the team leader in large scale office projects such as OP Vallila Campus, Vääksyntie 2, Tax Administration and the work environment concept of Technical Departments of Helsinki.

According to jury, her work resembles the seamless collaboration of architects and interior architects at its best. The jury appreciated her eye for details as well as her timeless and holistic approach.

This year the decision, based on the suggestions and applications, was made by interior architect SIO Joanna Laajisto, furniture designer Tapio Anttila, interior architect SIO Mika Tolvanen,  architect Mika Karkulahti, designer Tuuli Sotamaa and architect SAFA Jonna Taegen.

SIO is a professional association established in 1949. It disseminates information on the diverse professional skills of interior architects. SIO’s goals are to improve the quality of the built environment and to promote cultural and ethical values as well as sustainable development. Each year SIO recognizes one of its members with either the Furniture Designer of the Year award or the Interior Architect of the Year award
