Anna Sahlsténin katu 5
This residential building is part of a new block development in the Vermonniitty district of Leppävaara, Espoo. The block is bordered by residential buildings to the north and west, a park to the east, and sports fields to the south, creating a balanced urban environment that combines community and recreational functions.
Developed together with SRV, Sato Oyj and Espoon Asunnot, the block also includes three eight-storey point blocks, a six-storey lamella and an eight-storey lamella. A shared parking facility accommodates most of the residents’ cars, while the landscaped courtyard forms the heart of the block and serves all plots.
The property at Anna Sahlsténin katu 5 consists of one eight-storey residential building with 35 apartments. Shared facilities and technical rooms are located on the ground floor and in separate outbuildings, with the ventilation plant room situated on the roof. The project emphasizes compact urban living with well-designed outdoor spaces and a functional service structure.
The architecture of the building is characterized by carefully selected materials and details. The point block and its sheltered outbuilding are built in locally laid light flax-colored bio gas-fired brick. The façades have a calm rhythm, with windows aligned in uniform proportions. A distinctive horizontal brick band encircles the building at each floor slab level, creating a subtle variation in the masonry. Balconies are recessed on the short sides and cantilevered on the long sides; their back walls are clad in timber panels and the railings feature a brick-toned vertical silkscreen pattern that provides privacy while giving the building a distinctive identity. Entrances are highlighted by decorative brickwork. Metal elements such as window frames are carefully harmonized with the brick surfaces for a balanced and refined expression.
Sustainability is supported by a rooftop solar power plant and the use of recycled tiles for the walls and floors of the shared facilities.
