Helsinki Festival’s new Huvilanranta designed by JKMM
The more than 25-year old Huvila event will renew and expand to become a new festival park and a cosy summer terrace area open to the public.
During the Helsinki Festival, 12 August to 4 September, the Huvila Festival Tent will expand to the Tokoinranta waterfront park. The new Huvilanranta area, designed by JKMM, will be open to the public, and will not only stage an extensive selection of food and beverages but also a free festival programme, featuring talks, meet & greets with artists and DJ performances.
At the same time, improvements will be made to the Huvila concert area, the venue for paid events. More toilet facilities and covered lounge and restaurant areas will be available next to the Huvila. The improved entrances and stand structures will improve accessibility and ease people flows.
The series of 24 evening concerts at Huvila will kick off with a stirring musical spectacle by Taylor Mac.
“Huvila is the only dedicated performance venue of the Helsinki Festival, which has over the decades become a symbol of the festival and an August landmark in Helsinki. Designed by architect Roy Mänttäri, the structures deserve an update every 30 years,” says Stuba Nikula, CEO of the Helsinki Events Foundation.
“The renewal will make it possible to serve more and more Helsinki residents and better meet the ever-growing expectations for concerts as holistic experiences.”
The full Helsinki Festival and Huvila programme will be published at helsinkifestival.fi and tickets will come on sale on Thursday 21 April.
