Finland Pavilion Dubai Expo 2020
How two people meet in the desert
Finland Pavilion is called “Snow Cape”. In Finnish, it is named “Lumi”, which means snow. The pavilion was inspired by the thin white layer of first snow that covers the Finnish landscape in the beginning of every winter. The aim was to bring a fragment of Finnish nature to UAE and Dubai. Pavilion resembles a big white tent and the main entrance was inspired by a traditional Arabic tent.
Two cultures meet in the architectural concept of the pavilion. Tent is also a traditional meeting space, ideal for meeting face to face. Inside the pavilion, a central gorge space is covered with curved wooden surfaces. It is a sculptural space inspired by Finnish nature, creating a memorable visitor experience. The simple, minimalistic design reflects the long heritage of Finnish architecture and design.
The main theme of Snow Cape is ‘Finland – Sharing Future Happiness’. Finnish happiness is based on the symbiosis of people, nature and technology.
