Jätkäsaari Junior Hall

Location: Helsinki, Finland
Function: Sport stadium
Size: 10 750 m2
Status: Completed - 2020
Client: PPJ
Scope: Architecture

Jätkäsaari Junior Hall is our second  pneumatic indoor football practise hall.  It locates in Jätkäsaari in Southern Helsinki between Harbour area and a new residential district welcoming arriving visitors from ferry terminal with its prominent shape and illumination.

The new excess pressure hall is sized to house a full scale football field and will serve the PPJ junior players all over the year. The large field can be divided into smaller units according to the occurring needs. With warm-up areas, gym and carefully designed lightning, the hall provides excellent, versatile practise conditions.

The simple yet sculptural shape of the hall complements the coastal atmosphere and urban canvas of rapidly developing Jätkäsaari. The undulating form divides the hall visually into two parts and thus diminishes the overwhelming size of it. Its light-coloured translucent semi-surface is tuned with transparent circle-shaped pattern imitating animal skin subdividing the large envelope. During the dark Finnish winter months, the subtly illuminating light from the hall invites juniors to play and stimulates the whole neighborhood.
