Founded in 1940 Lilla Teatern in Helsinki has focussed on Swedish language performances. The theatre has operated from its current premises located in a purpose built building completed in the 1960s.

In the Autumn of 2020, JKMM’s interiors team refurbished the theatre's entrance and its foyer. The functionality of spaces was rethought so that it improves both the overall orientation and the interface with audiences.

The new designs, including furniture and fittings, has created a welcoming and intimate foyer that is conducive to theatre goers enjoying each other’s company as well as the staging of small scale performances and events.

The original tiled 60s floors and walls have been lined with oak and other natural materials. The subdued palette of colours in the interior is enhanced by using brass in many of its details as well as the light, linear black furniture that has been selected for the project.

The lighting using Artek’s distinct Golden Bell fittings adds to the elegant and captivating quality of the space.
