The Nové Bazaly Stadium in Ostrava represents a bold new chapter for FC Baník Ostrava and the city itself. Designed by JKMM Architects and SADAR+VUGA, the idea transforms the historic Bazaly site into a contemporary civic landmark that unites sport, culture, and community.

At its heart is a striking dome structure that hovers above the terrain, creating a sculptural identity visible across the city. More than a roof, the dome acts as an architectural statement and connective element, binding stadium and landscape into one inseparable whole. It shapes both the exterior public plazas and the interior seating bowl, offering visitors a dynamic and memorable spatial experience.

The stadium embraces Ostrava’s industrial legacy while projecting a vision of a modern, sustainable city. The design integrates seamlessly into the former quarry landscape, using terraces, retaining walls, and green embankments to anchor the venue within its context. Public spaces – ranging from intimate community areas to expansive fan plazas – invite daily use, ensuring the building serves residents year-round.

Functionally, the venue extends far beyond football. It includes hospitality, media, retail, museum, training, conference and leisure facilities, supporting a flexible operational model for match and non-match days alike. With a capacity of 21,000 spectators, the seating bowl is designed for intimacy, atmosphere, and inclusivity.

Sustainability is central to the proposal. Renewable energy systems, rainwater harvesting, and extensive greenery reduce the environmental footprint while enhancing comfort and wellbeing. Prefabricated, modular construction methods ensure efficiency, adaptability, and long-term resilience.

The Nové Bazaly Stadium is more than a venue – it is a cultural and urban catalyst. By merging architecture, landscape, and community, it aspires to become a beloved symbol for Ostrava’s identity and its transition from industrial capital to a green, forward-looking metropolis.

The proposal was conceived by a dynamic multidisciplinary team: JKMM and SADAR+VUGA (architectural design), Atelier One (structural design and geotechnical engineering), Transsolar (climate and energy), MASU Planning (landscape and urban design) and Sweco (transport solution).
