Verkatehdas Arts and Congress Centre
Verkatehdas is a former textile factory in the city of Hämeenlinna, Southern Finland. The design task was to convert the textile factory into a cultural centre.
The complexity of the final composition’s intriguing structure could be compared to a medieval city. The spacious glass-covered courtyard forms the heart of the fan-shaped area.
The venue has a flexible concert hall (seating up to 1 100), four cinemas, a restaurant and large glazed central hall.
The Verkatehdas Arts and Conference Centre in Hämeenlinna was proclaimed Finnish Steel Construction of the Year 2007 and Finnish Glass Construction of the Year 2008.
